چکیده

We present a new X-ray selected high redshift quasar CXOCY J125304.0090737 at z = 4.179, discovered by the Calán-Yale Deep Extragalactic Research (CYDER) Survey. This quasar is the fifth X-ray selected high redshift radio quiet quasar (z > 4) found so far and also the second faintest. Here, we present its observed properties which are characterized by its relative faintness, hardness and X-ray strength compared to optically selected quasars at high redshift. We also compare the X-ray selected high redshift radio quiet quasars to their optically selected counterparts. We find that the X-ray to optical spectral slope αox is statistically harder (more X-ray luminous) for the X-ray selected radio quiet quasars than for the optically selected ones and similar to the values at lower redshift. This argues against evolution in the αox value, but is consistent with an αox steepening with luminosity. It may also be due to inherent selection biases. Finally, we discuss the prospects of unveiling the quasar luminosity function at high redshifts using X-ray surveys. The discovery of a high redshift object in the first field of our survey program provides suggestive evidence that X-ray selected surveys may identify more such objects than would be expected from an extrapolation of the optical luminosity function. The CYDER survey: first results

We present the Calán-Yale Deep Extragalactic Research (CYDER) Survey. The broad goals of the survey are the study of stellar populations, the star formation history of the universe and the formation and evolution of galaxies. The fields studied include Chandra deep pointings in order to characterize the X-ray faint populations. Here we present the results on the first fields studied. We find th...

AN X-RAY–SELECTED ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEUS AT z = 4.6 DISCOVERED BY THE CYDER SURVEY

We present the discovery of a high-redshift, X-ray–selected active galactic nucleus (AGN) by the Calan-Yale Deep Extragalactic Research (CYDER) survey: CXOCY J033716.7 050153, located at z 1⁄4 4:61, the second high-redshift AGN discovered by this survey. Here we present its optical, near-IR, and X-ray properties and compare it with other optical and X-ray–selected high-redshift AGNs. The optica...

Discovery of a Z=4.93, X-ray Selected Quasar by the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (champ)

We present X-ray and optical observations of CXOMP J213945.0-234657, a high redshift (z = 4.93) quasar discovered through the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP). This object is the most distant X-ray selected quasar published, with an X-ray luminosity of LX = 5.9× 10 44 erg s (measured in the 0.3-2.5 keV band and corrected for Galactic absorption). CXOMP J213945.0-234657 is a g dropout obj...

Chandra Observations of Radio-loud Quasars at Z > 4: X-rays from the Radio Beacons of the Early Universe

We present the results of Chandra observations of six radio-loud quasars (RLQs) and one optically bright radioquiet quasar (RQQ) at z ≈ 4.1–4.4. These observations cover a representative sample of RLQs with moderate radio-loudness (R ≈ 40–400), filling the X-ray observational gap between optically selected radio-quiet quasars (predominantly R ∼< 2–10) and the five known blazars at z > 4 (R ≈ 80...
